Hola people! So I am currently working at Urban Baggerie, EVERYDAY ALL DAY, for 9 days in a row...i am on day 8 now, woot woot! Anywho, I've been trying to pass some time and decided to start researching on the Dominican Republic...I have discovered MANY interesting things.
First, although 70% of the Dominican population comes from African Ancestry, hardly anyone identifies with that ancestry. Most people call themselves "mixed race", of which there are 5 different types, depending on the actual color of your skin. As of now, I think I'd be "blanca obscura", which is dark white, hahaha. I NEED A TAN!
Anywho, I also discovered that sex trafficking is a big problem in the DR, and UNICEF is a huge contributer/aid in extinguishing it.
Thirdly, pregnant residents of Haiti, the neighboring country, often (illegally) cross the border so that they can give birth in the DR, because Dominican public hospitals do not refuse service to anyone...in fact, almost 25% of all births in the DR are from Haitain women.
"La Bandera" is the most common lunch dish, which is some kind of meat with red beans on rice...yummy!!! :-)
Anywho, that's all I have for now. I'll keep reading up on it and keep you all posted...even though I havent invited anyone to the blog yet, LOL.
Adios!!!

I FEEL IT IN MY BONES!! anywho, I hope you all enjoy reading this 5 months from now, lol...by then you would have seen that I had all the money, cuz i will be in the Dominican Republic already! :-P well adios people!
